Cloud computing: the most discussed topic in the IT sector
Cloud computing has been one of the most discussed IT topic in the last few years; it is a broad term including numerous services and systems.
The broader the term, the bigger the previsions. Forrester research estimates a rapid growth in this sector: global cloud computing market will increase from an estimated $40.7 billion in 2011 to $241 billion in 2020. IDC, on the other hand, takes into consideration a narrower meaning and they predict an annual growth rate of 22.4% until reaching $3.6 billion by 2015 for public cloud-based servers and $5.8 billion investment for private cloud infrastructure.
Similarly, two surveys were conducted by security vendor Symantec and by professional services firm KPMG respectively. Although both surveys found similar results, figures were interpreted very differently: according to Symantec, companies are still talking about cloud computing rather than try it; whereas KPMG predicts a rapid increase of enterprises planning to or already experimenting cloud systems.
Also Information Age’s 2012 survey shows interest in cloud computing and the pace of adoption keep growing.
Most companies who adopted cloud platforms are satisfied with their choice.
